The moment people mention Grade Control, people imagine huge spreadsheets, mountains of samples, data and statistics that mystify and confuse.

Grade control, however, starts with the knowledge and the attitude of people.

People need to realise that deposit represents an investment for someone, a resource, but also a job, an income for the family with the newborn child, to help the community raise themselves, to foster dream.

So, the function and and goal of a company that is in the business to mine a deposit, is to make money, now, and in the future.

Any Resource is finite, there is only so much of it. We need to:

1) make the most of it

2) “stretch it” as far as we can

3) look after it

4) use the least amount of time and the least amount of effort to get the most out of it.

That is why, Grade Control is a Team Sport. Every single person in the operation has his or her place in the Value Chain, to improve and look after the resource.

Yes, an overall and successful Grade Control system requires, lots of data, statistics, and samples, but most of all, it requires people that know what they are doing, why they are doing it, and what the consequences are of not doing the right thing.
